چکیده

Deep optical CCD images of the supernova remnant G 17.4–2.3 were obtained and faint emission has been discovered. The images, taken in the emission lines of Hα+[N ii], [S ii] and [O iii], reveal filamentary structures in the east, south–east area, while diffuse emission in the south and central regions of the remnant is also present. The radio emission in the same area is found to be well correlated with the brightest optical filament. The flux calibrated images suggest that the optical filamentary emission originates from shock-heated gas ([S ii]/Hα > 0.4), while the diffuse emission seems to originate from an H ii region ([S ii]/Hα < 0.3). Furthermore, deep long–slit spectra were taken at the bright [O iii] filament and clearly show that the emission originates from shock heated gas. The [O iii] flux suggests shock velocities into the interstellar “clouds” greater than 100 km s, while the [S ii]λ 6716/6731 ratio indicates electron densities ∼240 cm. Finally, the Hα emission has been measured to be between 7 to 20 × 10 erg s cm arcsec.

A ug 2 00 0 The Radio Structure of the Supernova Remnant G 315 . 4 - 2 . 3 ( MSH 14 − 6 3 )

G315.4−2.3 is an extended shell supernova remnant (SNR) with some characteristics of evolutionarily young remnants and some of older ones. To further elucidate some of its characteristics, we present imaging and polarimetry of this SNR at a frequency of 1.34 GHz with a resolution of 8 arcsec made with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The indicators of youth are: Morphologically, the radio...

The Remnant of Supernova 1987A

Although it has faded by a factor of ∼107, SN 1987A is still bright enough to be observed in almost every band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Today, the bolometric luminosity of the debris is dominated by a far-infrared (∼200 μm) continuum from ∼0.5 M of dust grains in the interior debris. The dust is heated by UV, optical, and near-infrared (NIR) emission resulting from radioactive energy de...

Optical CCD imaging of the supernova remnant CTA 1

Deep Hα + [NII], [NII], [SII] and [OIII] CCD images have been obtained from the high galactic latitude supernova remnant CTA 1. The filamentary morphology in the light of the [OIII] emission is now clearly seen in the full field of the remnant. Contrary to the [OIII] morphology, the remnant appears less sharply defined in the light of the Hα+[NII], [NII] and [SII]. The morphological differences...

The well-studied X-ray/Optical/Radio supernova remnant DDB 1-15 (CXOM31 J004327.8+411829; r3-63) in M31 has been investigated with archival XMM-Newton and Chandra observations. The timing data from XMM-Newton reveals a power density spectrum (PDS) characteristic of accreting compact objects in X-ray binaries (XRBs). The PDS shows features typical of Roche lobe overflow accretion, hinting that t...

New shell radio supernova remnant G 16 . 2 − 2 . 7

The extended radio source G16.2−2.7 is detected as a new previously uncataloged Galactic supernova remnant. Its non-thermal radio spectrum has spectral index α = −0.51, with Sν(1GHz) = 2.08 Jy, as being measured with the RATAN-600 radio telescope. The NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) map at 1.4 GHz shows a shelllike bilateral structure. The similar smoothed image from the Effelsberg survey at 2.7 GHz...
